Final round of the 8th Informatics Project Olympiad
08.05.2017 / Conferences, assembliesThe final round of the 8th Informatics Project Olympiad (IPO) among secondary school students organized by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of AR, Institute of Control Systems of ANAS, Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS, Qafqaz University and Istek lyceum was held on 8 May.
The Olympiad has been organized annually since 2008. It is a contest oriented at improving secondary school students' knowledge and skills in the field of ICT. 70 projects in total were submitted to the Olympiad in the nominations "Programming", "Web page", "Short film", "Animation" and "Robot", 40 of them qualified for the final. Besides the secondary school students of Baku, those from Ganja, Lenkaran, Quba and other regions also participated in the contest.
Speaking at the opening of the Olympiad at Qafqaz University, Rector of the University Ahmet Saniç said that the University, making a valuable contribution to professional personnel training in the field of ICT, had been holding various competitions and Olympiads to attract young people to gain new scientific knowledge and improve personnel training level. Olympiad play a special part in this, stimulating selection of talented youth who participate in informatics contests and worthy representation of our country in international competitions: "The aim of IPO, which is held this year for the eighth time, is to increase secondary school students' interest in the field of information communication technology (ICT), to ensure practical application of their theoretical knowledge in the field and create conditions for the growth of professional ICT personnel in our country."
Mentioning the importance attached in our country these days to the development of new projects in the field of ICT, Director of the Institute of Control Systems, Academician Telman Aliev told the audience about the role of the innovative thinking youth in this sphere. According to T. Aliev, the high level of the projects submitted to the Olympiad indicates that we have raised talented youth with great scientific potential. The scientist emphasized that Olympiads of this kind were of great significance for revealing future professional personnel and highly appreciated the activity of IPO. He also marked the importance of the authors' continuing work on their submitted projects in the future at institutes of the ANAS.
The projects in each nomination were evaluated on various established criteria and winners were announced, after which valuable gifts, medals and certificates were presented to them.
