Professor Gorkhmaz Imanov’s 75th birthday anniversary

Gorkhmaz Jahangir Imanov was born in Baku on 17 April 1941. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Baku (Azerbaijan) State University in 1964 and did his postgraduate studies in Moscow, at the Central Institute of Economics and Mathematics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1964-1967, defending at the same institute his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Science in 1968 and for the degree of Doctor of Economics in 1975.
A laboratory conducting scientific research work on the modeling of macroeconomic systems for the first time in the republic was established at the Institute of Cybernetics in 1974, and G. Imanov headed that laboratory up to 1987.
In June 1983, he received the academic title of Professor, and in 1984, he received the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR in Science.
G. Imanov headed the Azerbaijan State Planning Committee in 1987-1993 and the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Economy later.
In 1999-2000, he worked as head advisor at the Ministry of Economy of the Azerbaijan Republic.
From 2001 and up to this day, G. Imanov has been working in the position of head of laboratory at the Institute of Control Systems (Cybernetics) of ANAS.
Prof. Imanov was one of the first scientists in our republic to work in the field of economic and mathematical methods. About 200 scientific works written by him have been published in our country and 20 in foreign countries.
Examples of G. Imanov’s important achievements Q.C. are solving the practical stochastic transportation problem for the first time in the USSR, which simplified optimal planning of freight transportation in national economy; system of integrated models of national planning in the republic; building the structural function model of national economy in the republic; problems related to fuzzy models system.
His integrated balance models and structural-functional models of the union republics were included in the list of essential achievements of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1976-1981.
Prof. Imanov’s scientific results found an application in national planning.
G. Imanov is also actively involved in the training of highly qualified Azerbaijani specialists; 28 Candidates and Doctors of Science studied under his supervision.
He was Deputy Chairman of the USSR Academy of Sciences Council for the problem of "Optimal planning of national economy” for Azerbaijan and member of the Academic Council for Economic Problems of the Azerbaijan SSR Academy of Sciences.
G. Imanov regularly participates in and speaks at international conferences and seminars devoted to the application of mathematical methods and new computer technologies in economics in Azerbaijan, Russia, Italy, US, Austria, Spain, Finland and many other countries.
Prof. Imanov has recently been conducting extensive research in the area of application of soft computing methods, including neural network, fuzzy logic, etc. in macroeconomic modeling. The first fuzzy economics laboratory in the republic (recognized as third in the world) was established and headed by him in 2003.
In 2011, he was awarded "Management Science and Engineering Management” prize at the V International Conference in Macao, China.
