26 June - Day of the Armed Forces
26.06.2020 / Conferences, assemblies26 June, the day of the creation of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, is celebrated in our country as a national holiday. The founder of the modern Azerbaijani army, the national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev, is the author of making this day a part of history as a holiday.
By decree signed by the national leader on 22 May 998, 26 June, the day when the first Detached Corps of Azerbaijan was created under the leadership of General Samad bey Mehmandarov in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, was declared the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With this decree, the national leader Heydar Aliyev took the necessary step to restore the historical truth and traditions of continuity in the building of the National Army.
Heydar Aliyev was an outstanding statesman, great politician and professional military man. That is why the main aspect of building an army, which was founded after the great leader came to power, was the realization of high professionalism.
After the announcement of ceasefire on 12 May 1994, large-scale reforms in the building of the army began. The formation of military units and certain types of troops was soon completed. All problems associated with conscription and desertion have been resolved. Officers who held statehood and military oath above all, who knew the honor of being military and were morally healthy, headed military units. Attention was paid to the moral and psychological training of personnel, increasing morale and strengthening military patriotism. The centralized material and technical base of the army was significantly improved, and financial and economic activities were streamlined. The necessary laws were adopted in various areas of army construction, and an excellent legal framework was created for the armed forces.
The level of combat readiness of the Armed Forces depends not only on military equipment, but also on a well-educated officer corps capable of operating this equipment. From this point of view, the formation of a military education system in Azerbaijan that meets international standards has become an important and historically important stage in the construction of the army.
The work initiated by the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the field of army building, as well as national security policy, is successfully continued by a worthy successor of his political course, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The head of state, conducting consistent and systematic reforms leading to dynamic development in all strategically important regions of Azerbaijan, also pays special attention to the building of the army. Improving the defense and combat effectiveness of the National Army, improving its material and technical support, as well as strengthening the social protection of servicemen are the priority tasks of this policy.
Thanks to the special attention and care of the President of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the combat efficiency of the army has increased in recent years, its material and technical base has significantly strengthened, and important steps have been taken to improve the social situation.
The grandiose military parades held in recent years have demonstrated the strength and power of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and their modernization. These parades were also a triumph and a wonderful example of fidelity and respect for the ideas of the national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev. The high determination shown by President Ilham Aliyev to strengthen the armed forces of Azerbaijan and turn them into a perfect army that can liberate our occupied territories at any time, means the continuation of the ideas of Heydar Aliyev.
Year after year, the strengthening of the economic power of our republic as a result of successful reforms allows President Ilham Aliyev to take consistent measures in this area and constantly increase military budget. Following the thesis “If you want peace, prepare for war”, the head of state focused on such important issues as further strengthening the military potential of our country, citing the experience of advanced countries in this process.
